If this sounds like you, then keep reading.
You can book in below or contact us directly to discuss which course dates are best for you. After confirming your booking, we will then send you your IDC, E-Learning package and your Emergency First Responder Instructor packages.
Can't afford it all upfront, you can pay a deposit of $1,000 and pay the rest off as it suits you right up until the course start date. If you need to take this option please call the shop to discuss and set up an account.
2 weeks before your course starts, there will be a session with your Course Director, this is to talk about how the course will progress, and what are the first steps. You can collect your PADI Backpack, Slates and information from the store at this session or earlier if you want by arrangement.
The course itself is taught over a minimum of seven days, but more time is available if you need it, the IDC teaches you to conduct all PADI core courses. You'll be able to organize and present information, conduct skill development sessions and control open water dives.
Basically, you will become a better public speaker and get really good at demonstrating skills while watching out for student diver safety. Key topics in your training include:
How does it work?
Your IDC is made up of three parts, the first section qualifies you as an Assistant Instructor, the next part of the training is to prepare you to be an OWSI (Open Water Scuba Instructor). All OWSI must also be Emergency First Responder Instructors, so your EFRI training is also included. This will allow you to teach First Aid and Emergency Response. All of this training occurs in Jervis Bay either in our training room or in our off site Dive Pool.
Once you complete these components to the satisfaction of one of our Course Directors, you are ready for the final test.
Your IE (Instructor Examination) is conducted at PADI Headquarters in Sydney by a PADI examiner independently. This is to ensure that you meet the high standards required by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) and that you are ready to gain the OWSI qualification, a world-wide training certification that can take you anywhere.
PADI will charge you directly for the cost of your IE, your PADI Membership as an instructor and also your Professional Indemnity Insurance (around an additional $1,200). This then lets you begin teaching from Open Water right through to Dive Master.
If you would like to turn your course into an internship, then we can arrange that as well. Having the qualifications is an important step, but so is actual experience in teaching and having an experienced instructor take those first initial steps with you.
After completing your PADI Instructor Exam, return to Jervis Bay and you can take your first Open Water Courses with the support and supervision of one of our experienced instructors, you can also take an Advanced Course and a Rescue course to learn the how these courses flow. Conducting your first courses and getting your first certifications under supervision can give you that extra edge in the jobs market as well as a more in-depth understanding of what is required.
An internship gives you the practical application of what is involved to back up the theoretical knowledge that you have gained.
An internship package is available for $1750.
Our dive flat is available during your course to give you somewhere to stay for $335, for the entire course. This covers the workshop night, as well as the course itself and your internship if you choose to take one. Our dive flat is directly above the dive shop and has the added bonus of being right next to the training room.
